Professional Development
As a teacher, one of my personal pet peeves was being forced to attend so-called professional development workshops that did not actually help me become a better teacher. As a result, I always strive to create training and materials that provide teachers with ready-to-use ideas, techniques, and items that will enhance and improve their teaching practice. Here are a few examples of assets I've created for use in faculty training and professional development.

I created this LMS guide for college faculty in May 2024 using the Gamma App. Often, new or adjunct faculty are unfamiliar with Moodle, having come from institutions that use a different LMS like Canvas or Blackboard, so I wanted to create a quick guide that both introduces them to specific features of Moodle and also highlights recommended practices from an instructional design standpoint.

This presentation: "Exploring the Potentials of Generative AI" was given in September of 2023 as the keynote for the Fall Faculty Development workshop at Regis College. This screencast contains the recording of the live presentation itself plus additional video before and after that includes the introduction (not included in the live recording) and an additional demonstration (of Bing chat).

This presentation was created in 2023 to introduce faculty to AI-generative tools. Several AI-generative tools were used to create this presentation including ChatGPT, AI functionality in O365 apps & Canva, and AI image creation tools like Stable Diffusion.

As you are no doubt aware, AI and generative AI tools are EXTREMELY relevant right now, especially as relates to teaching and learning. I've created another website with more resources specific to this topic.

In March 2024, I was asked to create a 30-40 minute stand-alone professional development workshop for nursing faculty on how to effectively utilize generative AI tools in their teaching practice. This presentation, "Helping Nursing Faculty Harness and Use Gen AI Tools", was created using a combination of AI tools, Canva, ScreenPal, and Screenshot.

In March, 2024, I and three of my faculty colleagues were invited to present at the inaugural Innovative Education Conference sponsored by the Office of the Advancement of Teaching and Learning at the University of Rhode Island. The button links to the Canva slides for our presentation, "Inclusive AI Integration Through a Studio Arts Model at a Small Liberal Arts College."

This video was created in 2018 for a professional development workshop for faculty at Columbus State University. This PD provides strategies to allow teachers to solve some common classroom problems with technology.

This video was created in 2015 as a virtual presentation for the 8th International Conference of Education, Research and Innovation (ICERI). In it, I discuss ways to increase student engagement and understanding of mathematics via technology.

This 2012 workshop for the Global Conference on Technology, Innovation, Media, & Technology (TIME) is titled, "Approach Training: Extending Teaching & Learning via Hybrid Mathematics Classes." In it, I illustrate how to create classes that extend your students learning time, engage them in motivational and meaningful mathematics tasks, & enhance their mathematical understanding.

This "Five Minutes of Fame" presentation on "Extending Teaching & Learning Time via Technology" was given in 2016 for the annual event at the University of Trinidad & Tobago. You can download the program for the even below. In this presentation, I address one of the biggest challenges teachers face: how to increase the time our students spend interacting with us, each other, and the content of our classes. I demonstrate how technology can help us accomplish this goal without taking away from instructional time in class.

H5P
This is an H5P asset (Interactive Course Presentation) I created for a faculty development workshop for Regis College. Just a note that these were created in the LMS of the institution and are thus inaccessible to the public. I've embedded a copy here using H5P.org in order to share it with you (that's why the blue disclaimer message appears at the top of each). Also note that the public website linked in the demo slide no longer exists since Populr ceased operation in June 2023.
